With the Intel transition well and truly complete, early models are very good value now. The original white MacBook, with the Core Duo processor running at 1.83GHz is probably the cheapest entry level Intel mobile platform you will find.
Don't be put off by those that say that Core Duo is only 32 bit compared with Core 2 Duo being 64. In real world performance, this is almost a case of semantics. It will handle HD video splendidly and will run Snow Leopard with aplomb. Just make sure that your unit is equipped with at least 1GB of RAM.
The only minor disappointment is its integrated graphics card...it will not cope with cutting edge games. However, if you have older games (such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein or 4x4 Evolution 2), you will be satisfied with its performance.
Overall, the May 2006 White MacBook is a good buy and should last (unless you sit on it or use it as makeshift cricket bat) quite a few years.
